Sigma Announces Availability of New 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens

Today, Sigma Corporation of America announced the availability in the U.S. of its new, optically stabilized APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens, which contains the company’s new “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) lens glass. The MSRP of the lens, which was first announced at PMA earlier this year is hefty, at $2,470.

Currently the APO 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM lens is available in the Canon mount, and will soon be available in Nikon, Sigma, Sony, and Pentax mounts. The lens is a second generation lens, designed for use with full-frame DSLR cameras, but it can also be used with DSLRs that utilize the smaller APS-C sensors. The 70-200mm lens effectively becomes a 100-300mm focal length lens when used on an APS-C camera. When used on a camera that features the smaller image sensor, a dedicated hood adapter is used that expands the length of the lens hood so as not to vignette images.

The lens incorporates Sigma’s Optical Stabilization (OS) technology. Sony and Pentax photographers can use either the internal OS or OS capabilities of the lens. Minimum focusing distance is 55.1-inches throughout the entire zoom range.
